Navigating the College Admissions Process During COVID-19

In these unprecedented times, St. Louis College of Pharmacy continues to adapt to ensure the safety of our campus community and the continuity of support for students. With students, faculty and staff now engaging in online work and learning, and a variety of campus services now available remotely, the College has moved into a virtual landscape.

With institutions across the country now existing in a virtual world, the college search process has changed dramatically. As prospective students navigate this evolving process, the College’s Office of Enrollment Services is expanding its efforts to ensure that students have the information and tools they need to make informed decisions regarding their college plans.

“We know that prospective students, especially seniors, have had their high school careers uprooted and we don’t want to add on to the stress they might already be experiencing during this pandemic,” said Jill Gebke, director of admissions. “Right now, we are focused on evaluating how our procedures and requirements can be adjusted to best help our students during this time, and we’re looking for ways to simplify our process while still maintaining our standards.”

In recent weeks, the Office of Admissions has made the following changes to better assist prospective students.

  • Expanded virtual campus visit options
    Through virtual campus visits, students can meet with an admissions representative, view video tours of campus, and explore campus through an interactive map. View all of the virtual options.
  • Extended application and deposit deadlines
    For seniors, application and deposit deadlines have moved from May 1 to June 1, while the application deadlines on PharmCAS for professional students have been moved from June 1 to July 1. 
  • Revised application requirements
    Students can now be accepted with unofficial transcripts and test scores. As students move closer to enrollment, the Office of Admissions will work with students to secure official documentation. The College is also moving to becoming test optional through the 2021 academic year in an effort to assist students who have had test dates rescheduled or canceled.
  • Fee flexibility
    Families can request that deposit and application fees be waived.
  • Virtual orientation
    Orientation has now been moved online for new students, providing students with more flexibility to complete orientation when they have time available.
  • New financial aid options
    If a family is experiencing financial hardship, FAFSA professional judgement reviews are available to families who need assistance.

“As a small, private college, our community is everything,” Gebke said. “As we navigate this challenging time, we are coming together, caring for each other and meeting the challenge head on. Our office is continually reaching out to our prospective and accepted students to let them know that we are here for them.”
