On Oct. 18, more than 260 students, scholarship sponsors, faculty and staff gathered on campus to honor the scholarship recipients of the 2018-19 academic year at the annual St. Louis College of Pharmacy Scholarship Awards Dinner.
Earlier this year, the College’s scholarship committee, comprised of faculty from the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Pharmacy, reviewed almost 490 applications in order to match scholarship criteria with qualifying students. Over $468,000 was ultimately awarded to 192 students through 227 sponsor-funded scholarships this year.
“The dinner celebrates the accomplishments of our amazing students and acknowledges the dedication of alumni and friends who have invested in their future,” stated Kathy Gardner, vice president for advancement and chief development officer.
In addition to celebrating the College’s scholarship recipients, the dinner also serves as an opportunity for sponsors and scholarship winners to meet and get to know one another on a more personal level.
“It is a special opportunity for generations of alumni and students to connect, share experiences, network with one another and create lasting bonds,” Gardener said. “Many of our scholarship sponsors were once students at the College so they can serve as important resources for current students as they approach graduation. Our scholarship sponsors also understand the significance of scholarship support and are able to relate with students about their education and their future aspirations in their chosen career field.”
The evening concluded with the presentation of a special thank you video dedicated to scholarship sponsors, which featured students expressing their gratitude for the sponsors’ continued support and commitment to student success at the College.
“Receiving scholarship assistance allows us to have one less thing to worry about,” stated P4 student and scholarship recipient Alex Metzger. “They provide us with resources we need to continue our education and step into our chosen fields. I hope that when the time comes to help the next generation of health care providers, we will all remember the feeling of receiving these awards and remember just how much they meant to us.”
