It was a night to remember. Hundreds of scholarship recipients, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors celebrated students’ academic achievements at St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s annual Scholarship Awards Dinner.
More than 223 scholarships totaling $786,890 were awarded to 203 students at the College’s annual event on Sept. 17, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Clayton, Missouri.
Jessie Merlo, fifth-year student and director of Campus Activities Board, spoke of the opportunities that were made possible through generous donations. Merlo received the Westlake-Lindhorst Scholarship for her dedication and leadership in campus organizations.
“The gift of education is priceless — it will open so many doors and change so many lives. The opportunity for knowledge is something that can never truly be repaid,” said Merlo.
The night continued with sixth-year student and recipient of the STLCOP Faculty and Staff Scholarship, Spencer Dingman encouraging students to use their knowledge to make a positive impact on the world.
“Use the gift you were given not only to help fund your education, but also to serve as motivation to get the most out of your time at STLCOP,” said Dingman. “Someone has placed an investment in your success. You’re going to provide care for many people over the years, and what you do at STLCOP lays the foundation for what kind of impact you can have on each one of them. “
The event also featured an address by alumnus, Steve Hebbel ’ 84, who spoke on the importance of giving back to students. STLCOP President John A. Pieper, Pharm.D., FCCP, and Anastasia Armbruster ’09, Pharm.D., BCPS, assistant professor of pharmacy practice also delivered remarks.
