Women’s Basketball Team Wins at Home

The Eutectic women’s basketball team won its fourth game of the season on Tuesday, Feb.16 at home over St. Louis Christian College. The Lady Euts dominated the Soldiers from the tip-off, heading to the locker room with a 22-8 lead.

Second-year Rebecca Hentze (30) and first-year Jenna Bailey (10) on defense
While the Soldiers stepped up play in the second half, so did the Eutectics. Doubling their first-half points, the Soldiers put in 22 more, but the Eutectics returned from half-time shooting 44% from the field and scoring 41 points. The Eutectics claimed victory at the buzzer with a final score of 63-25.

Led by first-year center Hannah Renner with 18 points and six rebounds, the Lady Euts had three players score in double digits. First-year guard Jenna Bailey and second-year forward Susana Hurtte each had 10 points for the Eutectics. Third-year center Jeana Walton-Day led the team in rebounds with seven, while first-year guard Courtney Wiedemer had six assists for the Lady Euts. The Lady Eutectics are now 4-19 (0-6 in the KIAC) for the 2009-10 season with only three games left in regular season play. Next up for the Lady Euts is the Homecoming game on Friday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. in the Pillbox versus the Logan Chiropractic College Llamas. The following day (Saturday, Feb. 20) is the final home game of the season against conference team Cincinnati Christian University at 3 p.m. The final regular season game will be on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley at 7 p.m.

STLCOP Loses to Brescia

The Lady Euts traveled to Owensboro, KY, on Saturday, February 13, to play Brescia University. Without starting point-guard Jenna Bailey, the team struggled to a 26-85 loss against the conference opponent. Scoring 16 points to Brescia's 42 in the first half, the Lady Euts confidence took a blow and the team could only come up with 10 more in the second half.

First-years Kathy May and Courtney Wiedemer led the Euts with 12 and 10 points respectively. Fourth-year Nicole Freund had two points and five rebounds, while second-year Lauren Owens also had two points for the Eutectic team.

Next up, the Lady Eutectics will host the newly formed St. Louis Christian Soldiers team on Tuesday, Feb.y 16, at
5 p.m. in the Pillbox.

Lady Euts Post Win Against Lincoln Christian

The STLCOP women's basketball team came home with a win after a trip to Lincoln, Ill., on Friday, Feb. 5 to take on the Lincoln Christian University Red Lions. Making their mark early on, the Euts posted 32 points to LCU's 13 by halftime.

The Red Lions made a push in the second-half, scoring 24, but even keeping the Euts to 19 points was not enough to erase the half-time lead. STLCOP was up 51-37 at the final buzzer.

First-year Eut guard Jenna Baily led the Euts with 18 points, shooting 43% from the field and recording seven steals. First-year center Hannah Renner did her part on defense attacking the boards and pulling down 14 rebounds, and also putting in six points for the Euts. Second-year Susana Hurtte pulled down eight rebounds and put in four points, while second-year Rebecca Hentze had eight points, going two for two from three-point land. Fellow second-year Lauren Owens had seven points, while first-years Courtney Wiedemer and Kathy May had six and two points respectively.

With their third win of the season, the Lady Euts have surpassed last year's team record of  2-23.  Currently, the Euts are 3-18 (0-5 in the KIAC) with five games left in regular season play. Next, the team travels to Owensboro, KY, to take on conference foe Brescia University on Saturday, Feb. 13.

Principia College Ousts Lady Euts

The Lady Eutectics travelled across the Mississippi on Monday, Feb. 1 to take on Principia College but came home disappointed. Shooting 25% from the field, the Eutectics could not compete with Principia's 51% shooting average and lost 36-83.

First-year guard Jenna Bailey led the Euts with 21 points, making two of three three-pointers, and shooting 62% from the field. First-year center Hannah Renner had six points and eight rebounds for the squad, while third-year Susana Hurtte had four assists, seven rebounds, and two points. First-year Rebecca Hentze hit a three-pointer, while fourth-year Nicole Freund and first-year Kathy May each had two points for the Euts.

The Lady Eutectics travel to Lincoln, Ill., on Friday, to take on Lincoln Christian College. Lincoln also was dominated by Principia 22-68, when the two teams played on January 29.

Lady Euts Struggle against KIAC Teams

After going 2-10 in the first half of the season, the Eutectic women's basketball team returned from semester break hoping to post a few more ticks in the win column. The competition, however, has not been easy, and the Lady Euts

have struggled with consistency averaging 31.7% for field goals. Since the new year, the team has gone 0-5, with four of those being conference games.

The Euts suffered their worst loss yet against conference rival Berea College at the Pillbox on January 16. Losing 34-127, the Eutectics shot 17% from the field and turned the ball over 45 times, while the Berea Wolverines were consistent at 55% for field goals. Second-year forward Susana Hurtte led the Eutectics with 14 points, five rebounds, shooting seven for 10 from the
free-throw line.

Next up was a trip to Louisville for a neutral-site game against KIAC member Alice Lloyd College on January 18. First-year center Hannah Renner recorded her second double-double as a Eutectic with 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Euts in the 47-85 loss.

Oakland City University proved to be too much for the Euts back at the Pillbox on January 27. The Euts lost 40-82 with first-year guard Jenna Bailey leading the team with 14 points.

The Lady Euts then took a two-day trip to Kentucky to play two conference teams. At Midway College on January 29, the Euts lost 33-86 despite Bailey's 18 points and 86% free-throw shooting. The following day at Asbury, they suffered a similar fate losing 39-88. Again, Bailey was the team leader with 17 points and four rebounds.

Four Eutectic players have earned spots in the top 20 in the KIAC for individual statistical categories. Bailey and Renner are ranked in nine and eight categories respectively, while Hurtte and first-year Kathy May are ranked in one category each. Both Bailey and Renner are ranked as high as second in the conference: Bailey for steals/game (4.08) and Renner for total rebounds/game (7.00), while also holding several other spots in the top 10.

The Eutectics have seven games left in the season to find more success. While there are two more conference teams to play, upcoming games versus local teams such as Principia College, St. Louis Christian College, and Logan Chiropractic College should be good chances for the Eutectics to show off their talents and earn a few more wins. The final game of the season is at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley on February 23.

Women's Basketball Team Posts two Wins so far

With seven new faces on the team, the Eutectic women's basketball team is struggling to find a rhythm this year, starting the season off with a 2-8 record. The team's two wins were posted against Baptist Bible College

at the STLCOP Tip-off Classic on November 6 and in the Baptist Bible College Classic the following weekend.

First-year guard/forward Jenna Bailey has already made a name for herself on the Eutectic team. She was named to the STLCOP Tip-Off Classic Standout Team for her stellar performance during the four-team classic where she posted 29 points in the Eutectics' first win of the season. Currently, Bailey leads the KIAC in points per game, averaging 19, as well as scoring (133 points) and steals (25). She also is ranked second in field goal percentage (48%), third in steals/game (3.57), and seventh in free-throw percentage (64.6%).

Fellow freshman Hannah Renner is also listed among the statistical leaders in the conference. The 5'11" forward is currently ranked fourth in total rebounds (42), sixth in scoring (75 points) and eighth in blocks (3) and offensive rebounds/game (2.43).

The Euts have four more games before taking a month off from competition for the semester break. They'll face Principia College, Stephens College, conference-foe Indiana University-Southeast, and Florissant Valley Community College before the holidays and then return for a home match versus Berea College on January 16.
