Our Mascot

The Eutectic

“Eutectic” describes the scientific process of two solids being combined to form a liquid.  A common term in pharmacy, it is the perfect metaphor for the St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s intercollegiate athletic program – combining athletics and a demanding academic program.

The name Eutectic was submitted by a student for consideration in the naming of a new mascot in 1993, when STLCOP joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) to compete at the intercollegiate level. Previously, STLCOP athletic teams were known as the Volunteers and were represented by a purple dinosaur named “Rex” (Rx). The name Eutectic was the favorite of several team names presented to students, faculty, and staff, which also included Panthers, Volunteers, and Pioneers.

STLCOP's unique mascot is a reflection of the College’s individuality and unique status as a pharmacy professional college, and one of only three private, freestanding pharmacy institutions in the country. In fall 2009 the College's mascot and athletic logos were redesigned to reflect a fiercer, brighter mascot.
