Eutectics Finish Regular Season
On Friday night, Feb. 19, the Pillbox was jammed with Eutectic fans in anticipation of the STLCOP Homecoming game against Logan Chiropractic College. The game was a nail biter from start to finish with the two teams matching up point-for-point. At halftime, the Eutectics and Llamas were tied at 26. The two teams continued to battle it out until the second-half buzzer, when again they were tied at 51-51. In overtime, neither team scored. It was all about free throws, with the Eutectics coming just short. The Euts made one of three free throws in overtime, while the Llamas went eight for eight at the free-throw line. At the final buzzer, the score was Eutectics 52, Llamas 59.
First-year forward Daniel Powell led the Euts with 15 points and five rebounds. Fourth-year center Matt Finet had 13 points and five rebounds. Jonas Parker (8), Luke O’Brien (7), Jordan Murdoch (3), Jimmy Gherna (2), Kendrick Greathouse (2), and Adam Thalla (2) put in the rest of the points for the Eutectics.
In their final game of the 2009-10 regular season, the Eutectics hosted conference team Cincinnati Christian University on Saturday, Feb. 20. Despite leading the Eagles for the first 15 minutes of the game and shooting a respectable 50% from the field, the Euts came up short, down 38-45 at the half, and 65-89 at the final buzzer.
Seniors Parker and Finet performed well in their final game in the Pillbox in a Eutectic uniform. Parker had 17 points for the Euts, going four for eight from three-point land, and pulling down five rebounds. Finet had nine points and 10 rebounds. First-year guard Kendrick Greathouse also scored in the double digits with 12 points. The rest of STLCOP’s points came from O’Brien (8), Thalla (6), Powell (6), Gherna (3), Brian Hwang (2), and Murdoch (2).
Finishing the regular season with a 1-24 record, the Eutectics head to New Albany, Ind., for the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament as the eighth seed. They will square off against nationally ranked and number one seed Indiana University Southeast in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Soldiers Prevail Over Eutectics
The St. Louis Christian College Soldiers came to the Pillbox ready to play on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Led by two shooting guards, the Soldiers dictated play from the tip-off, draining three three-point shots within the first three minutes of play.

Soldiers shooting guard Jessie Alvarez went six for seven from 3-point land, scoring 23 points for SLCC, while fellow-guard Ricky Graham went four for six from the arc putting in 22. Despite the Soldiers dynamic duo, four Eutectics managed to score in the double digits. Senior center Matt Finet recorded his third double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Fellow-senior guard Jonas Parker led the team in points with 16, going four for four at the free-throw line. Second-year guard Luke O’Brien had 12 points and six rebounds, while first-year forward Daniel Powell had 11 points for the Euts. Brandon Barringer (7), Kendrick Greathouse (3), Jordan Murdoch (2), and Jimmy Gherna (2) made up the rest of the Eutectic points.
The Eutectics hope to improve on their 1-22 record (0-5 in the KIAC) in the final two games of the regular season. On Friday, Feb.19, the Euts will host Logan Chiropractic College at 7:30pm for the Homecoming game. Then, they’ll be back in action again on Saturday, Feb. 20, for the final game of the regular season versus conference team Cincinnati Christian College in the Pillbox at 5 p.m.
Eutectics Lose to Brescia
The STLCOP men's basketball team took a trip to Owensboro, Ky., to take on the Brescia University Bearcats. Hoping to come home with a conference win, the Eutectics came up short, losing 45-80 to the Bearcats. With Brescia shooting 58% from the field and 53% from three-point range in the first half, the Euts were down 15-40 as they headed to the locker room.
In the second-half, the Euts doubled their scoring efforts to 30, but it was too little too late as the Bearcats shot 55% for the game and 83% from the free-throw line. The Bearcats also had a 36-17 advantage in rebounds.First-year forward Daniel Powell led the Eutectics with 10 points. Other Eutectics with points against Berea were Luke O'Brien (8), Jimmy Gherna (6), Jonas Parker (6), Kendrick Greathouse (5), Brandon Barringer (5), Matt Finet (3), and Jordan Murdoch (2).
The Eutectic team will be back in action again on Tuesday, Feb.16, when they host St. Louis Christian College Soldiers at the Pillbox. The Euts have a 17-5 record against the Soldiers in the past 10 years of competitions.
Men's Team Suffers Two More Losses

The Euts hosted conference powerhouse Indiana University Southeast on Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Pillbox. The IUSE Grenadiers are currently ranked fourth in the nation (NAIA Division II) with a 20-3 record and easily lead the KIAC (8-0). The Euts played their hearts out, scoring 54 points and shooting 36% from the field. But, the Grenadiers proved too big of an opponent, scoring on 50% of their shots and finishing the game with 86 points. Fourth-year center Matt Finet led the Euts with 15 points and eight rebounds (100% from the free throw line), while third-year guard Jonas Parker ahd 12 points. Powell (8), O'Brien (6), Greathouse (6), Gherna (5), and Thalla (2) scored the remaining points for the Eutectic team.
The Euts are now 1-17 for the 2009-10 season, but hoping to improve on that record with their trip across Forest Park to play the Concordia Seminary Preachers on Tuesday, Feb.y 9. The Euts collected their first and only win against the Preachers in December against the Preachers.
Eutectics Give Principia a Tough Game
The Eutectic men's basketball team travelled to Elsah, Ill., on Monday, Feb. 1, to compete against Principia College. Hoping to avenge their 58-59 loss to Prin in November, the Euts came up empty-handed scoring 62 points to Principia's 75.
After heading to the locker room at half-time shooting 29% and behind by 19, the Euts came back fighting in the second half, shooting 50% to Principia's 40% and ate away at Prin's lead to get the score to within 13 points.
Second-year guard Luke O'Brien led the Euts with 18 points and seven rebounds, shooting 80% from the field. Fourth-year guard Jonas Parker had 17 points and went four for four at the free-throw line. First-year guard Jimmy Gherna had seven points and seven rebounds and first-year Jordan Murdoch had six points for the Euts. Other Eutectics on the board were Adam Thalla (5), Sujal Patel (3), and Daniel Powell, Matt Finet, and Kendrick Greathouse with two apiece.
Up next for the Eutectics is a trip to Lincoln, Illinois, to play Lincoln Christian College on Thursday, Feb.4 before hosting conference foe Indiana University Southeast on Saturday, Feb. 6 at 2 p.m. in the Pillbox.
Eutectics Keep Fighting.
Since posting its first win of the season against Concordia Seminary on December 1, the Eutectic men's basketball team has suffered six losses, four of which were conference games. In the 60-73 loss to conference team Alice Lloyd College, Parker had 14 points, shooting 4 for 5 at the three-point line. Fourth-year center Matt Finet led the team with 15 points and 5 rebounds.
At home against Indiana University East, it was Finet's turn for the double-double. He had 15 points and 10 rebounds in the 46-83 loss to the KIAC member team. O'Brien led the team this time with 18 points for the Euts.
Oakland City University proved too much for the Euts in the Pillbox on January 27, as the 46-80 score seemed a bit like a repeat of the IUE matchup. Parker led the team with 11 points, while O'Brien, Finet, third-year guard Adam Thalla and first-year forward Daniel Powell each put in eight points.
At Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky., on January 30, the Euts suffered their fourth conference loss 50-83. Finet had 14 points and nine rebounds in the game, while Thalla had 5 points and 12 rebounds.
Finet, Parker, O'Brien, Thalla, and Powell are each ranked in the top 20 in the KIAC in at least one individual statistical category. Parker ranks as high as fifth in 3-point field goals/game (2.27) and holds positions in four other categories. Finet's highest rank is sixth in double-doubles (with two) along with five other statistical rankings. O'Brien holds five spots as well, including seventh in total rebounds/game (with 5.80) and defensive rebounds/game (with 4.00).
With a 1-15 record (0-4 in the KIAC), the team has nine games left to come up with some wins before the end of the season. Upcoming opponents include a second bout with Concordia Seminary, games against local rivals St. Louis Christian College and Logan Chiropractic College, along with three more conference games.
Euts Post First Win
The Eutectic men's basketball team earned its first win of the season on Tuesday, Dec. 1, as they defeated Concordia Seminary in the Pillbox 57-53. The Euts led at the half 28-23 and never gave up the lead to the Preachers. Fourth-year center Matt Finet led the Euts with 16 points and six rebounds, while fourth-year guard Jonas Parker put in 15 points, including three three-pointers.
Currently, Parker is ranked second in the KIAC for 3-point field goals made (21) and third in free throw percentage (81%). Second-year guard Luke O'Brien's name is also listed in the conference statistical rankings at #3 for total rebounds (65), while Finet ranks sixth in the same category (55).
The Euts have one win and 10 losses for the 2009-10 season with only one game left before the semester break.
STLCOP Men's Basketball Team Loses a Nailbiter in the Pillbox
After starting the 2009-10 season off with eight losses, the Eutectic men's basketball team was ready for a tick in the win column. So, on Tuesday, Nov. 24, when Principia College came to the Pillbox, the Euts played their hearts out in front of a

STLCOP Head Coach Brian Swift said his team played their best first half of the season, heading to the locker room ahead by seven points after the first 20 minutes. A determined Principia team returned to court after halftime, however, and came back quickly in the second-half. With 22 seconds left in the game, the Euts were ahead 58-57. After two more time outs, and less than 5 seconds on the clock, Principia sunk a basket to take the lead 58-59. Try as they might, the Euts were unable to score in the final three seconds of the game and took a tough loss to the cross-town rival.
First-year guard Daniel Powell led the Euts with 12 points, while second-year Luke O'Brien put in eight points and pulled down 16 rebounds for the team. Currently, O'Brien is ranked fourth in the KIAC for defensive rebounds per game, averaging 4.86. Fourth-year Jonas Parker (who contributed eight points in the Principia game) is second in the conference for three-point field goals made (15).
Next up, the Euts take on Concordia Seminary at the Pillbox on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Then, after hosting Greenville College on December 5, the Eutectics will take a semester break and return to the court in January.
