A Prescription for Fitness
St. Louis College of Pharmacy students don’t have to worry about finding and paying for an off-campus gym to stay fit. In fact, we encourage our students to follow national health guidelines by carving out time at least five times a week and heading to the campus Fitness Center located in the Cartwright Student Center. The benefits of regular exercise are important now and throughout your life. Stress reduction, strength, balance, flexibility, stamina, and maintaining a healthy weight all involve a good dose of regular physical activity. Knowing that a healthy lifestyle is important to our students, we situated the Fitness Center right in the heart of campus and student life. The loft-like design is open and airy, offering a good view of activities in the Pillbox gymnasium below.
- To help ensure safety, we have a two-person policy; at least two people must be present in the Fitness Center and/or Athletic Office in order to use the equipment. To make sure you’re able to comply, bring a buddy along and work out together!
- Regular Fitness Center hours are: Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Hours may vary during STLCOP breaks and holidays.
Work Out with Class
Two of the most popular types of fitness classes available today – yoga and Zumba – are offered throughout the week in the Cartwright Student Center. Stretch, balance, relax, and breathe with morning or lunch-hour yoga classes, and sweat to a Latin beat with Zumba, the fitness craze that builds endurance and strength for 50 “fun” minutes. Specific class times and locations are available on the STLCOP calendar.
