Wealth of Events Highlight American Pharmacists Month
October is American Pharmacists Month and St. Louis College of Pharmacy is celebrating with more than a dozen events to highlight the importance of pharmacists in health care. The first big event of the month will be a national Tweet-a-thon. On Oct. 3, both student pharmacists and faculty will take to the social networking site Twitter to share the things they’ve done that day to help patients, other health care professionals, and the St. Louis community. These posts will be easy to find searching for #Pharmacist. The first weekend of the month is reunion and hundreds of alumni are expected to return to campus. College President John A. Pieper, Pharm.D., will wrap up the weekend by leading thousands through Forest Park at the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes as the honorary chair for the Greater Missouri/Southern Illinois chapter of JDRF. In that role he is highlighting the importance of a pharmacist in the management of Type 1 diabetes.
All month, students from the College will be working with visitors at the Saint Louis Science Center. There will also be a focus on the family at Child Safety Day on Oct. 12. Later in the month, College students will canvas the community with health information including the importance of keeping an updated medication list. The month wraps up with Boo Fest, a fun, safe Halloween party with JDRF for children with Type 1 diabetes and their families.
