Record Enrollment

ST. LOUIS – For the first time ever, St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP) has an enrollment of more than 1,200 students. When classes began today, 1,234 aspiring pharmacists were on campus – bringing the College near maximum capacity.

In addition to the record enrollment, the College welcomed 245 first-year students, which is slightly more than in recent years. The first-year students come from 15 states and their average GPA is 3.77.

Both the overall enrollment and higher number of first-year students are consistent with national data that indicates the pharmacists remain in demand. According to Pharmacy Manpower Project Inc., which collects data on the supply of pharmacists, there is a moderate demand in 35 states, including Missouri and parts of the Midwest (http://www.pharmacymanpower.com/state.html).

This year, the College increased its overall enrollment by nearly 50 students. First-day student enrollment in 2008 was 1,190.

Currently, STLCOP is the 12th largest Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) program in the nation and one of more than 100 pharmacy schools in the United States. Each year, it admits students directly from high school and integrates the liberal arts and sciences with a six-year professional curriculum.
