Media Advisory:
Local College Athletic Mascot Gets “Formal” Name

What: St. Louis College of Pharmacy’s mascot, the Eutectic, will get a “formal” name during tonight’s basketball game against Principia College

When: Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. (the name will be announced before tipoff of the men’s game)

Where: St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 4588 Parkview Place. The event will be held in the gymnasium. A campus map is available at: http://www.stlcop.edu/contact/mapdirections.asp

About this Event: In recent weeks, students have participated in a naming contest. The list has been narrowed and a name has been selected.

The big question around campus is, will it be “Eugene” the Eutectic, “Mortimer” the Eutectic, “Pestel Pete” the Eutectic, “Rex” the Eutectic, or “Thumper” the Eutectic?

In August, the College unveiled a newly designed Eutectic, which has the dubious distinction of being among the nation’s worst team names, according to Time.com. So, just what is a Eutectic? It describes the scientific process of two solids being combined to form a liquid.

The College has five sports teams and is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

About St. Louis College of Pharmacy: Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy is one of the oldest and largest colleges of pharmacy in America. The College admits students directly from high school and integrates the liberal arts and sciences with a six-year professional curriculum leading to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. Approximately 1,250 students attend, and more than 72 percent of practicing pharmacists in the St. Louis metropolitan area are alumni. Additional information is available at www.stlcop.edu.
