Scott Coon

Education

Dr. Coon received his Pharm.D. from the State University of New York University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Coon completed a post-graduate year 1 & 2 residency training at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and St. Louis County Department of Health (ASHP accredited).

Specialty

Dr. Coon is BPS Board Certified in Ambulatory Care and Pharmacotherapy. Dr. Coon specializes in primary prevention of cardiovascular disease (e.g. appropriate use of statins and aspirin), diabetes mellitus, hypertension, anticoagulation, smoking cessation, and the use of natural products.

Current Research

Dr. Coon's current research interests include: medication-assisted therapy (i.e. opioid withdrawal and maintenance), medicinal cannabis use, herbals/supplements, primary prevention of cardiovascular disease in underserved populations, nonsterile compounded preparations, and expansion of the pharmacists' scope of practice.

Current Courses, Activities, and Scholarly Interest

Dr. Coon's favorite courses are integrated pharmacotherapy and the advanced pharmacy practice experience. When he's not teaching, Dr. Coon enjoys working on various DIY projects, laboring over the perfect cup of coffee, discussing the latest beer & mead releases, walking his cat, and reading/listening to fiction (Pierce Brown, Libba Bray, Scott Hawkins, Philip Pullman). For most of the year, Dr. Coon stays active outdoors as a runner / hiker, but will shred mountains on his snowboard when given the opportunity. Dr. Coon enjoys traveling immensely and often takes way more pictures than necessary.

Dr. Coon is a native New Yorker (Syracuse, NY) and has lived in Portland, OR and St. Louis, MO (current). He enjoys working with underserved populations in a primary care / family medicine setting. Dr. Coon currently splits his time between the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and St. Louis County Department of Public Health.
