According to head coach David Baker, third-year runner Sarah Pollmann ran the “race of her life” at the American Midwest Conference women’s cross country championships on Nov. 6. In doing so, Pollmann qualified for nationals for the third year in a row, finishing fourth of 79 runners, and clocking in at 20:03. She is only the second cross country runner in STLCOP history, male or female, to become a three-time national qualifier.

This year, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) championships were held on Nov. 22 at a familiar place. Pollmann remembered the Rim Rock Farms course in Lawrence, Kan., from the 2013 NAIA championship meet. While she was not able to best her 2013 nationals PR (19:43), she completed the 5K in a respectable time of 20:11, finishing 210th place of 336 runners competing.

With a successful cross country season under her belt, and finals coming to a close, one might think Pollmann should have earned a well-deserved break. But, training never seems to end for distance runners, and Pollmann is already gearing up for the indoor and outdoor track seasons. Always goal- driven, she has her sights on her first track and field national qualification in the marathon this spring. The Eutectics’ first indoor track meet of 2015 will be on Jan.24 at the Snow Bird Open at Illinois College in Jacksonville.
