Puja S. Patel, 2nd-year student

Puja Patel

Hometown: Franklin, Kentucky; Franklin Simpson High School

My best friends would describe me as being hardworking, religious, generous, and active.

I chose pharmacy because I had my mind set on being a pharmacist ever since I was in elementary school. My family urged that I stick to this mindset.

I chose STLCOP because I had family come through STLCOP, and they all recommended that I attend . So far, I love it. The six-year program is also a reason why I chose STLCOP.

What area of pharmacy are you interested in? As of now, I’m not sure. If I had to pick, I would say retail pharmacy. I’m also interested in working with children.

My career goals include being a successful pharmacist and assist my patients to the best of my ability.

The biggest challenge about college would be the workload. The transition from high school to college is one that takes time getting used to.

When I got to STLCOP, I was most surprised to find the high level of interaction between all the students. The student body is very close in terms of social life and academic goals. Everyone is willing to help each other.

My favorite thing to do in St. Louis is to go out to new and different places to eat, and go to the Delmar Loop and Forest Park.

What activities are you involved with on campus? I am involved in International Student Organization (ISO), Student Pharmacists Association, and the work study program.

My favorite class at STLCOP has been
anatomy. I found it so interesting learning about the various body parts and systems and how they work together. Mrs. Tranel made the material interesting to learn too.

The best thing about being a student at STLCOP is that you don’t have to take the PCAT to enter into pharmacy school; it’s a direct six-year program that admits students straight out of high school.

My favorite restaurant in St. Louis is California Pizza Kitchen; I had never heard of it in Kentucky.

My favorite place to study is in the library, or anywhere else where it’s peaceful.

My favorite College events are the winter formal and ISO night. The Welcome Back BBQ when school starts is nice too.

My favorite way to spend a weekend while at school is to hang out with friends, work out, and just trying to enjoy the weekend before the school week starts again.

I spend my leisure time working out, going out with friends, exploring new places around St. Louis, and let’s not forget studying.

A song that best describes my life: “Miss Independent” by Ne-yo

Famous person I would like to meet…Kobe Bryant!!

My favorite TV shows include "House,”” Top Chef,” “America’s Next Top Model,” and “Good Morning America.”

Favorite holiday is Diwali because I get to visit family and close friends that I haven’t seen in a while. Plus getting all dressed up is always fun!

My most memorable experience at STLCOP so far
would have to be my freshman orientation because it was the first time that I had ever been to STLCOP. I still remember it.
