Position Description
The Board of Trustees of St. Louis College of Pharmacy (STLCOP) invites nominations and applications for the position of President. The President is the chief executive officer of the College and is responsible for its academic and administrative direction. The President reports to the Board of Trustees.
Founded in 1864, St. Louis College of Pharmacy consistently graduates one of the largest classes of future pharmacists in the nation. The College admits students directly from high school, and the six-year curriculum integrates the liberal arts and sciences with a professional program leading to a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The College offers a full student life experience, including more than 50 student organizations and intercollegiate athletics. More than 1,200 students from 25 states are currently enrolled, and the College’s 6,300 living alumni live in all 50 states and 11 different countries. Approximately 72% of St. Louis-area pharmacists are STLCOP graduates. St. Louis College of Pharmacy is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The six-acre campus is located in the heart of the St. Louis Central West End medical community and includes new and renovated facilities that house laboratories, classrooms, the O.J. Cloughly Alumni Library, the Cartwright Student Center, administrative offices, Residence Hall, lounges, and recreation areas.
CRITERIA
The successful candidate must possess high academic and personal standards, be energetic and persistent in the pursuit of excellence, and be comfortable with the values and culture of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy environment. The principle professional qualities and experience sought are:
• a doctoral degree in pharmacy or related health sciences or equivalent experience in higher education administration or executive management of large organizations;
• a commitment to professional education at the doctoral level while understanding the importance of both the liberal arts and basic sciences to the overall educational success of our students;
• a commitment to the College’s strategic plan and its detailed implementation while advancing the vision of the plan to the next phase of development;
• a comprehensive understanding of the current environment of pharmacy education, the contemporary issues of pharmacy practice, and the interdependence of the academic, business, and professional disciplines;
• exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to relate to, communicate with, and develop relationships with a wide range of individuals and groups. Such groups include, but are not limited to, members of the Board of Trustees, the College administration, deans, faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, community leaders, media, health care and pharmaceutical leaders, and educators, as well as other constituents;
• successful skills in budget and staff management, capital campaigns and advancement, strategic planning, business management, and utilization of internal and external data;
• extensive experience in personnel management, including, but not limited to, the development or expansion of key leadership positions, delegation of authority, and conflict resolution;
• a commitment to diversity among the staff, faculty, and student body;
• interaction with professional organizations, advancement of issues through political activities, and willingness to be a leader within professional and civic organizations;
• the ability to analyze complex situations, develop solutions, and use judgment consistent with sound educational, administrative and business practices;
• a thorough and complete understanding of the mission and vision of St. Louis College of Pharmacy;
• the ability to develop and execute new strategic plans while respecting the heritage of the College; and
• the ability to build the reputation of St. Louis College of Pharmacy on the basis of quality research.

The Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee invite letters of nomination, applications (letter of interest, resume/CV, and references), or expressions of interest to be submitted to the search firm assisting St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
